You would not at first think that seafarers would wear beanies, but this is one of the most successful simple projects that The Mission to Seafarers in Wellington has embarked on in recent times.
The beanie has become synonymous with the Wellington Seafarers Centre and with parishes around the Diocese of Wellington. Knitters from parishes provide brightly coloured beanies to collection points in the lower North Island. St Hilda's have a number of people who regularly drop newly knitted / crocheted beanies off to church. Beanies are given to seafarers when calling in at the Seafarers Centre and are much prized. Yarn and patterns have been donated for this purpose and available in the church foyer if you have none available and wan to join in too!
